Daily Blic writes that there will be more than half a million doses of the swine flu vaccine left if vaccination continues at the current pace. According to EU standards, if that many vaccines are left over, they will have to be destroyed. “Destroying vaccines will be expensive” Blic writes that this means that not only will the RSD 799 per vaccine be lost, but additional money will have to be paid in order to get rid of all the vaccines that aren’t used. The interest of citizens for getting vaccinated continues to drop. Of the 855,700 vaccines that have arrived to Serbia, only 142,025 have been used. Currently, medical waste is being exported abroad to be destroyed, which will have to be done with the vaccine as well. Blic learned from the Milan Jovanovic – Batut health institute that most medical waste is taken to Austria to be destroyed. Working group officials are claiming that it is too early to talk about the vaccines that will be left over. They said that immunization will not be finished until the end of February or beginning of March, which is when the height of the third wave of the virus is expected to hit. (Beta archive)
