Kosovo's Premier Hashim Thaci says "all measures have been undertaken" so that the celebration of Feb. 17 goes peacefully. Kosovo's Albanians unilaterally declared independence on that day last year. Serbia has rejected the move as illegal. Thaci happy with "first year of state" "The Kosovo authorities and international missions have undertaken all measures in order to prevent any blackmail by Belgrade," Thaci was quoted as saying. The media in Pristina have been writing for the past couple of days that some Serb leaders from the north of Kosovo have allegedly said that Jarinje and Brnjak customs checkpoints on the administrative line "will be burned if they are set up again". Meantime, it was announced that the government in Pristina looks to spend EUR 150,000 for the celebrations. Thaci said that "the first year of the state has been successful", and that "every citizen of Kosovo should feel proud for what they have done for freedom and the state". "On Tuesday we are celebrating a birthday that will open up the country's perspective and that of all citizens of Kosovo," he said, listing "creation of new jobs, building of the country's stability, security recognitions for the independent state" as the achievements in the past year. As for the future, Thaci said Kosovo would "integrate into all international mechanisms". According to him, the celebrations on Tuesday will be "dignified and comprehensive".
