President Boris Tadic has met with his Chinese counterpart Hu Jintao today in Beijing. Tadic is beginning a five-day visit to China today, arriving in Beijing, where the Olympic Games will be held from August 8-24. Tadic meets with Chinese president “The fact that we are one of the rare delegations that has been approved for bilateral talks with Chinese leader Hu Jintao says a lot about the position of our country when it comes to China’s foreign policy,” Tadic said after meeting with Hu. “During the meeting in the Chinese parliament, we confirmed our readiness for absolute cooperation in the fields of politics and human rights. Serbia sees the issue of Tibet as an internal issue of the Chinese people, and we received support from the president for our efforts to preserve Serbia’s sovereignty over Kosovo,” the president told Serbian journalists. Tadic reiterated that this was his second visit to China in the last three years, adding that there would be new important meetings with Chinese officials in several months’ time focusing on the economic domain. “The Chinese president is very well informed about foreign policy issues that are important to the future of Serbia, but we agreed that cooperation in the fields of the economy, telecommunications and the development of infrastructure were all of great importance,” he said. Hu thanked Tadic for Serbia’s help in organizing the Olympic Games, and the help in dealing with the aftermath of the devastating earthquake that hit China recently. The president said that he was pleased to be visiting China again, and congratulated Beijing on its success in organizing the Olympic Games. “The last time we met, they had started preparations for the Games. And now I see great results on every corner, which can’t help but delight every statesman,” he said. The president added that friendship between the Serbian and Chinese people had been a part of past relations between the two countries, but would be the future as well. Tadic will use his visit to the Chinese capital ahead of the 29th summer Olympics to hold informal talks with as many of the 88 heads of state and government atttending the event, for whom the Chinese president will hold a reception tomorrow. Tadic and Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic will be meeting today with the Huawei company’s European CEO, and with representative of other large Chinese companies interested in investing in the Serbian market. Later this evening, Tadic will visit the Olympic village, where he will attend the ceremonial raising of the Serbian flag.
