Serbian currency reaches lowest value against euro

The NBS traded another EUR 20 million on the interbank foreign exchange market yesterday, in an effort to prevent excessive daily volatility of the Serbian dinar exchange rate.

The Serbian currency dropped 1.6 percent against the eurozone single currency compared to a month earlier and 5.5 percent against a year earlier.

The dinar is now worth 0.7 percent less in relation to the U.S. dollar, with the indicative exchange rate standing at RSD 98.2619 for one dollar.

Placed against the U.S. currency, the dinar is worth 3.2 percent less than a month ago and 14.3 percent less than a year ago.

The Serbian currency touched its highest middle exchange rate level this year on January 1, when one euro could buy RSD 114.6421.

Since the beginning of the year and including the latest transaction, the NBS has purchased a total of EUR 200 million and sold EUR 1.465 billion in the interbank foreign exchange market to prevent excessive daily volatility of the dinar exchange rate.
