Serbian govt. signs license agreement with Microsoft

The Serbian government and Microsoft Corporation have signed an agreement on licensing and servicing of computer software.

WASHINGTON The Serbian government and Microsoft Corporation have signed an agreement on licensing and servicing of computer software. The software will be used by the Serbian public administration. Serbian govt. signs license agreement with Microsoft The agreement was signed by Serbian Prime Minister Ivica Dacic and Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer. “The cooperation with Microsoft will secure the implementation of software technology in the public sector and also the services intended for use by citizens,” Dacic stated. He announced promotion of cooperation between state institutions and active participation of citizens in the information process. “We firmly believe that through this agreement we are building a good path towards the realization of goals defined by the Serbian government and opening a common space for successful future projects,” the prime minister said. Microsoft Corporation said that the agreement had secured maximum use of the investments by the Serbian government in the IT infrastructure so far, adding that the entire system was by far more secure, which would make the operation of the state administration more efficient. A strong basis has therefore been established necessary for the launch of services intended for use by citizens, economy and state institutions. Microsoft Multi-Country General Manager for Central and Eastern Europe Takuya Hirano underlined that this company was strongly committed to Serbia's economic development and implementation of the latest technologies which could contribute to the strengthening of its competitive position in the regional and global market. “Therefore, we believe that this agreement will be the cornerstone of a long-term strategic cooperation between Microsoft and the Serbian government,” Hirano said. The statement reads that after the release of analyses the government has concluded that such approach secures additional budget savings, further optimization of infrastructure capacities, increase of information systems to a higher technological level, and creation of conditions necessary for the development of modern electronic services intended for use by citizens and economy. At the same time, a partnership tie with of the leaders at the world IT market, such as Microsoft, will have numerous positive effects on the development of the local economy and domestic software industry, and also creation of positive conditions for investments by foreign businessmen.
