Ministers show up for German ambassador's "summer party"

Welcoming his guests at his residence in Belgrade's Senjak district, Dittmann observed that he has been posted in Serbia - "a beautiful country with wonderful people" - for a year now. "It's not boring here in the political sense either, but today we are not dealing with politics. Your only strategic decision will be choosing between chicken and sausage, white and red wine," the ambassador said in his brief speech.

The diplomat noted that the party was "traditional" as his predecessors also organized it. Among those who attended was National Assembly Speaker Maja Gojkovic, as well as ministers Zorana Mihajlovic, Nebojsa Stefanovic, Jadranka Joksimovic, Zoran Djordjevic, head of Serbia's team in EU accession negotiations Tanja Miscevic, and Kosovo Office Director Marko Djuric.

Among the guests was also head of EU Delegation to Serbia Michael Davenport, World Bank Country Manager for Serbia Tony Verheijen, French, Israeli and British ambassadors, and other representatives of the diplomatic corps. Many members of Serbian and German business communities, and Serbian public and cultural figures were also there, including Princess Jelisaveta Karadjordjevic.

The guests enjoyed German barbecue and were entertained by live music, and a magician. Last week, the Russian embassy organized a reception marking the country's national holiday, attended by top state officials.
