BELGRADE 13 people, who were shot to death by Ljubisa Bogdanovic on Tuesday, were laid to rest today in the village of Velika Ivanca, 50 kilometers south of Belgrade. The suspected killer died in Belgrade’s Emergency Center on Thursday. 13 victims of mass shooting laid to rest His wife is recovering after surgery. 13 coffins were displayed in front of a village church before the burial. Interior Ministry State Secretary Vladimir Bozovic, Belgrade Mayor Dragan Djilas, Belgrade City Assembly Speaker Aleksandar Antic, Mladenovac and Sopot municipal representatives, representatives of the police and more than a thousand family members, friends and neighbors attended the funeral. The service was held by Bishop of Sumadija Jovan. (Tanjug) Bogdanovic killed 13 relatives and neighbors - Branko Bogdanovic, Dobrila Bogdanovic, Dragana Stekic, Danica Stekic, Mihajlo Despotovic, Milena Despotovic, Goran and Jovana Despotovic and their two-year-old son David, Olga Mijailovic, Velimir Mijailovic, Milos Jesic and Ljubinka Jesic. Bishop of Sumadija Jovan said that there were no words or a reasonable explanation for the tragedy in Velika Ivanca and called on everybody to ask themselves if they took care of others, if they were ready to help, sacrifice themselves, forgive, love and console. Bozovic sent his condolences to the victims’ families and said that the tragic event should be a call for solidarity, brotherly love, forgiveness, faith and hope. “Let us ask ourselves what we are ready to do for each other. Serbia is used to suffering, look at all the things that are happening to us. That is why we need solidarity and unity,” he said. Bozovic added that the government needed to step up its activities in order to prevent tragedies such as this one from happening again. “We need to work and take action because little David’s sacrifice and childhood cut short would otherwise have no meaning,” he added and called on Serbian citizens to help each other in the time of need. (Tanjug) Antic told reporters after the service that he had a sad duty to express condolences, lay a wreath and light candles on behalf of all Belgrade citizens. Daily Blic writes that an ambulance came in front of the church ahead of the funeral because one of the family members had collapsed. Police are still trying to determine a motive for the massacre.
