While the unemployment rate is growing and prices are increasing, the optimism of the Serbian people remains high, according to a recent survey. The GFK research agency shows that more than one-fourth of citizens honestly believe that better days are coming. According to the survey, 28 percent of citizens are convinced that the situation in the country will improve, which is 21 percent more than a year ago. The survey also states that young people are the most hopeful, especially in between the ages of 20 and 39. However, people seem to be aware of the current situation, with 63 percent of people unsatisfied with the current financial situation in their households. The rate of citizens who are in debt is steadily increasing as well. In June alone, the number of people taking out credit from banks increase by 5.1 percent compared to May. The unemployment rate reached 19.2 percent in April, which is an increase of three percent compared to last year.
