A scuffle broke out last night between two groups of Muslims in a mosque in Prijepolje, south-western Serbia. A delegation from mufti Muamer Zukorlic tried to hand over a decision that the mosque's imam was relieved of his duties when the incident occurred. Incident in Prijepolje mosque, police seize guns Last week, an assembly of Serbia's Islamic Community, an organization gathering the Muslims in the country, decided to replace Zukoric, chief mufti, with Adem Zilkic. Prijepolje representatives took part in the vote. Last evening, Zukorlic's deputy Resad Plojovc said he and several other representatives were engaged in a "verbal duel" with Prijepolje mosque officials, and added he was "unaware of any guns," that Interior Minister Dragan Jocic said were found in the possession of Muslim worshippers after the incident. Jocic said last night the incident ended without casualties, while the police detained several persons. He said one of them was in possession of an unregistered firearm, while officers recovered four more handguns tossed in the area. Jocic added that during the day Friday, those who back Zukoric sent text messages calling on their supporters to gather in front of the Meshihat building in Novi Pazar to "defend the mufti's status." This has put police in the region on alert, and the MUP has the situation under complete control, ready to react and prevent any possible outbreaks of violence, Jocic explained.
