According to unofficial information, parties of the ruling coalition won a majority in 12 out of 14 towns in yesterday’s local elections in Montenegro. The ruling Democratic Party of Socialists of Montenegro (DPS) has not won an absolute majority in the country’s capital Podgorica, according to unofficial results. Montenegro: No clear winner in capital DPS has announced that it is “still the strongest” party in Podgorica but that it did not say how many councilors it will have in the local assembly which has 57 seats. According to the Social-Democratic Party of Montenegro (SDP) and the United Opposition, forming of the city administration in the Montenegrin capital will depend on SDP. Based on results from 70 percent of polling stations in Podgorica, DPS won 28, United Opposition 24 and SDP won five seats, said SDP. They did not announce with whom they would form a majority in the capital, but as said their prerequisite for negotiations and coalitions was “respect of the state of Montenegro”. The United Opposition has invited SDP to negotiations about the forming of city authorities, and one of the opposition leaders, Nebojsa Medojevic, expressed hope that the Social-Democrats will resist pressures and opt for the alliance with the opposition. Medojevic said that the election results showed that a united opposition model had yielfed results and that “there was a democratic and civil“ alternative to those now in power. Elections were held in 14 out of 21 Montenegrin municipalities on Sunday. The parties of the ruling coalition won in 12 towns, while the opposition won in Pluzine and Pljevlja, unofficial results showed. DPS announced that its results “improved” in all municipalities.

DPS has announced that it is “still the strongest” party in Podgorica but that it did not say how many councilors it will have in the local assembly which has 57 seats.

According to the Social-Democratic Party of Montenegro (SDP) and the United Opposition, forming of the city administration in the Montenegrin capital will depend on SDP.

Based on results from 70 percent of polling stations in Podgorica, DPS won 28, United Opposition 24 and SDP won five seats, said SDP.

The parties of the ruling coalition won in 12 towns, while the opposition won in Plužine and Pljevlja, unofficial results showed.

DPS announced that its results “improved” in all municipalities.
