Two tons of cannabis have been confiscated in Albania in the past two weeks, Albanian Interior Minister Luzim Basha said. The narcotics were meant for the international marker, and were found in different parts of the country. Two tons of cannabis seized in Albania "Albania is still a country that produces cannabis, which is a big problem for authorities," said Albanian PM Sali Berisha. He also promised an "uncompromising fight to eradicate this practice". According to police in Albania, at least 504 persons were detained or arrested in 2009 for manufacturing or trafficking drugs in that country. They also said that last year 125,195 cannabis plants were destroyed. However, international police experts in Tirana say that Albanian authorities are far from winning the battle against drug traffickers.
