About 60 striking miners of a bauxite mine in northern Montenegro have spent the sixth night in the pits. They are demanding the promised payment of salaries and severance pay. Montenegro: Miners spend 6 days in pits After the appeal of Economy Minister Branko Vujovic, delivery of food and water to the miners was enabled on Sunday. But, the minister said he thought the miners’ demand to have severance money paid to those who had earlier applied to voluntary leave the company were "unrealistic". He said that this was the case not only because of the money necessary to meet the demands, but also because severance pay could not only apply to the miners working in the pits, but to all 600 workers who had signed the co-called social program. Vujovic said that a mixed commission, consisting of representatives of the Economy Ministry and the mine, would investigate whether another of the strikers' demands: to have the one of the pits resume production, was justified. “All indicators point to a significantly higher price of production, and to the losses which could be created in that way,” the Montenegrin economy minister stated.
