Montenegro: Miners spend night in pits
Several dozen miners of a bauxite mine near Nikšić, in northern Montenegro, have spent last night in one of the pits.

Several dozen miners of a bauxite mine near Niksic, in northern Montenegro, have spent last night in one of the pits. They are protesting over four unpaid wages. Montenegro: Miners spend night in pits The miners say that the owner of their company has not paid their wages due for work in between August and November. The protesters went down into the pit on Monday night, and announced earlier that they would spend New Year’s Eve there if their demands are not fulfilled. According to unofficial information, the miners descended to the mine through a ventilation opening, which, according to experts, involved high risk. Igor Kisenkov, the executive director of the bauxite mine – owned by Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska's En+ Group operation, the Central European Aluminum Company (CEAC) – said that two monthly wages would be paid by the New Year. Kisenkov also told the workers that the mine must go through bankruptcy procedures, which would call for redundancies to be made. On Tuesday, the mine's union leader, Ratko Radulovic, said that "60 and more" miners were currently protesting in the pits.
