The EC and Macedonia signed a “Road Map Schedule of Measures” for gradual abolishment of the visa regime for Macedonian citizens in Brussels yesterday. The speed of application will depend on the “government’s capacity to satisfy all the necessary conditions,” said the European Commission Director for South-East Europe Michael Lee. EC, Macedonia sign "road map" The “road map” agreement for visa regime liberalization was signed by Lee on behalf of the EC, and by Macedonian Foreign Minister Antonio Miloshoski on behalf of Skopje. Miloshoski expressed his hope that Macedonia would be able to complete the four blocks of “scheduled measures” required by the EU before the end of the year. Macedonia, an EU candidate state, needs to meet conditions relating to secure travel documents, reducing illegal immigration, public order and security, international relations, fundamental rights and freedom of movement for citizens, as well as political stability and human rights. The authorities in Skopje have already, in the eyes of the EC, taken an important step to visa regime liberalization by introducing biometric passports for Macedonian citizens, as well as achieving progress in the “integrated administration of frontiers.”
