Serbia "considering concrete action on migrant crisis"

In a statement to Tanjug, Stefanovic said he expected Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic to call a meeting of a bureau coordinating the security services once the measures had been defined, and that the action to be taken would soon be announced.

Earlier on Thursday, Minister of Labor, Employment and Veteran and Social Affairs Aleksandar Vulin said he had requested from Vucic that the bureau meet urgently over the migrant situation.

Vulin said that Serbia should "protect its space and its territory, bearing in mind that our neighbors have been behaving in this way."

According to him, 334 migrants that have been registered entered Serbia from Bulgaria the previous night, and 158 more from Macedonia, "and it is to be expected that the number is somewhat greater."

Vulin said he was very concerned after learning that Hungary tried not only to direct migrants toward the transit zone, but to return them to Serbia without any legal grounds and basis in international law.

"After we learned that Croatia, too, is thinking about building a fence on our border again, and after we learned that a significantly greater number of migrants is entering our territory, I have to say that I must share my concerns with the entire public," the minister said.

According to him, "Europe is behaving as if the migrant crisis is over."

"We could be left all alone and be solving the migrant crisis all alone, and it seems that our good will, our work and effort - to treat migrants in the best and most humane way on the migrant route - is seen by some as a sign of our weakness, and it's as if there's nobody to appreciate it, and precisely for that reason I asked the prime minister to urgently convene the bureau," said Vulin.
