UNESCO Executive Board "cannot erase history" - FM

"Regardless of today's decision, we need to continue our efforts for the preservation and protection of cultural heritage of the Serbian Orthodox Church, the Serb people and Serbia in Kosovo and Metohija, and we will do that at the General Conference of UNESCO as well, which will be held in November, and in all other political and diplomatic activities the future," said Dacic.

He pointed out that "we have done everything that was up to us" and that "all countries in the world have been informed of our positions."

"The Executive Board of UNESCO may decide however it wants, but history cannot be erased because that has always been and always will be Serb cultural and religious heritage in Kosovo. Whatever someone calls it and whatever decision is made," said Dacic.

Adding that "not everyone has to be right all the time," the minister "stressed that if the Executive Board adopts the recommendation (to allow Pristina to join), it will be an unprecedented decision, because there is no international legal basis for it as the UN has not recommended the adoption of such a decision."

"On the other hand, it would be the first time to reach a decision on admission to membership of someone who has not passed the qualification in the preservation of cultural heritage, quite the contrary," Dacic has been quoted as saying.
