Nikolić thanks Norway for assistance

"Norway has provided a good living standard to its citizens and I congratulate your leadership on that," the presidential press office quoted Nikolić as saying during the meeting in Belgrade on Tuesday.

"Following changes, Serbia has started implementing reforms, it is fighting crime successfully and cutting the budget deficit, but recently has been hit by floods, which made the situation even more difficult," Nikolić said, adding that the solidarity of friends is invaluable to Serbia in these difficult times.

Minister Brende, whose country is not an EU member, said that Norway supports the process of Serbia's European integration, adding that the path to the EU and the EU membership will promote economic growth and bring positive reforms.

In addition to the initial EUR 3.3 million, Norway will provide another EUR 2 million to back Serbia, kick-start crucial investments and help those most in need, because the Serbian economy needs incentives and development to overcome this difficult situation, he said.

Everyone in Norway has seen how bravely you dealt with the natural disaster that hit your country, Brende said.
