If citizens do not remove barricades from northern Kosovo roads during the weekend KFOR will do it peacefully on Monday, KFOR has announced. KFOR Commander Erhard Drews met with Kosovska Mitrovica, Zvecan, Leposavic and Zubin Potok mayors on Saturday afternoon to discuss the current situation in northern Kosovo and find a solution for removal of the barricades that are preventing freedom of movement. KFOR: If Serbs don’t remove barricades we will Both sides agreed that citizens, KFOR and EULEX had the right to freedom of movement. However, there were no concrete results. The northern Kosovo Serbs still have not decided what they would do with the barricades and asked Drews not to take any action before a joint session of the four northern Kosovo municipalities is held on Wednesday. However, KFOR stated later on Saturday that its troops would remove the barricades on Monday if Serbs did not remove them over the weekend. Serbian Ministry for Kosovo State Secretary Oliver Ivanovic has said that KFOR’s announcement that it will remove the barricades on Monday is unexpected. “It won't bring any result, aside from the fact that it could raise tensions in case KFOR tried to achieve what it announced,“ he pointed out. KFOR said in the announcement that its job was to maintain a peaceful and safe environment and provide freedom of movement to all citizens in Kosovo. According to the announcement KFOR, will continue to remain committed and unbiased and perform its duties in accordance with the UN mandate. (Tanjug)
