Slovak FM Mikulas Dzurinda says that Slovakia is not planning on changing its position on Kosovo but that this is not halting its European perspective. “The goal is to establish really good relations between Belgrade and Pristina. We are in favor of a dialogue and it would be good if it would truly begin,” Dzurinda said. Dzurinda: Slovakia won’t change stand on Kosovo He stressed at a meeting between FMs of the Visegrad Four and FMs of the Western Balkan countries that it was a good thing that Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary did not have the same position on Kosovo. Slovakia is the only Visegrad Four member that refuses to recognize Kosovo’s unilaterally declared independence and one out of five EU member states which share its opinion. Hungarian Foreign Minister Janos Martonyi assessed today that the fact that Serbia and Kosovo were willing to start the dialogue was positive. “More sensitive issues will obviously be solved later, but today has already brought something positive,” he explained. EU Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Fuele also attended the meeting. He warned that the progress of the Western Balkan countries on the EU path was conditioned by their success at home. He expressed hope that Croatia’s final negotiations with the EU would go without any problems after their dispute with Slovenia had been solved, and pointed out that the arrest of Hague indictee Ratko Mladic remained condition for Serbia. The Visegrad Four foreign ministers issued a joint statement today, pointing out that they expected Serbian EU candidacy application to be submitted to the European Commission as soon as possible. The Visegrad Four also expects the EU to begin accession negotiations with Macedonia soon. However, Dzurinda refused to speculate on dates when certain countries could begin their accession negotiations. Mikulas Dzurinda and Vuk Jeremic (Tanjug)
