Sweden's Lars Lage Olofson has on Friday taken over as Kosovo's new auditor general, reports from Pristina said. He was appointed by International Civilian Representative Pieter Feith. Swede Kosovo's new auditor general Feith also performs the duties of the European Union special representative in Kosovo. The Office of the Auditor General is envisaged as an independent public institution responsible for auditing the work of the government in Pristina. It should provide independent evaluation of responsibility and financial management within the ministries, municipalities and public companies. Olofson said yesterday that he is pleased to have an opportunity to "add to the values in the process of building good management and responsibility in the public sector in Kosovo". He also expects to have "good and fruitful" cooperation with the legislative and executive organs. The auditor general is the highest organ in Kosovo's public auditing, managing a yearly auditing program and budget review.
