"Serbia's EU accession is priority"

As Prague takes over the EU presidency on Jan. 1, one of its priorities will be trying to bring Serbia closer to the organization, President Vaclav Klaus says. Klaus, who will arrive here for a two-day official visit, told the Belgrade daily Vecernje Novosti in an interview that he had always called for realistic expectations regarding EU accession and membership, and that the same applied to his country's presidency. "Serbia's EU accession is priority" The Czech president, a known Euro skeptic, said that he did not accept everything from the EU unconditionally and that he refused to look upon the EU integration process uncritically. "The process has its advantages and its price," he said in the interview, which will be published on Monday. Commenting on the Czech recognition of the Kosovo Albanians' unilaterally declared independence, Klaus said that the case of Kosovo opened Pandora's box, and that each country that recognized Kosovo had to know that it was "responsible for this".

The Czech president, a known Euro skeptic, said that he did not accept everything from the EU unconditionally and that he refused to look upon the EU integration process uncritically.

"The process has its advantages and its price," he said in the interview, which will be published on Monday.

Commenting on the Czech recognition of the Kosovo Albanians' unilaterally declared independence, Klaus said that the case of Kosovo opened Pandora's box, and that each country that recognized Kosovo had to know that it was "responsible for this".
