Still no deal on troubled EULEX

At the same time, an invitation from the UN, under Resolution 1244 provisions, would provide it with legitimacy. But Russia is seen as blocking agreement on this at the UN Security Council. Asked whether his statement was completely contradictory to what the EU heads are advocating when they demand that Belgrade and Kosovo Serbs accept EULEX, the unnamed diplomat said that the " offered deal was not explicit enough for the main actors". Russia's ambassador to the EU, Vladmir Chizov, confirmed for Beta that the last UN Security Council meeting did see attempts to provide "some sort of international legitimacy" for the mission via a presidential statement. "But this was rejected," Chizov said. Sweden's foreign minister, Carl Bildt, also addressed the issue, when he said the UN and EU expert teams were conducting negotiations in a bid to find the way out for EULEX and its status in Kosovo.
