An average of 3.5 tons of corn per hectare will be harvested from Serbia's one million hectares under the crop, officials say.

An average of 3.5 tons of corn per hectare will be harvested from Serbia's one million hectares under the crop, officials say. The data came from the CornRresearch Institute in Zemun Polje, released Wednesday. Corn harvest yields 3.5mn tons 150,000 hectares of soybean are expected to yield 1.5 tons per hectare on average, as the total production will amount to 225,000 tons. Two tons of sunflower per hectare will be harvested this season, from 130,000 hectares of land in total. The institute was founded 62 years ago and is now the leading Serbian institution when it comes to scientific and research applications linked to the development, production and introduction of new high-yielding, quality corn and soybean hybrids. The institute has thus far registered and certified 535 hybrids for the domestic market, and more than a hundred for foreign markets.
