BELGRADE MUP Counter-Organized Crime Service (SBPOK) chief Svetislav Djurovic has been relieved of his duties, and will now serve as advisor at the Serbian police (MUP). This has been confirmed by Police Director Milorad Veljovic. Head of Counter-Organized Crime Service sacked Veljovic spoke on Wednesday to explain that the decision was carried out on Monday, and that Slavisa Sovetic was named as Djurovic's replacement. Until now Sovetic served as head of the Operative Analytics Department of the Belgrade police. Veljovic declined to comment on the media speculation that Gendarmerie commander Bratislav Dikic will also be replaced. The Belgrade-based tabloid Informer claims that the sacking of Djurovic marks the beginning of a "purge" within the top MUP ranks, that will include Dikic, as well as head of the Department for Protection of Persons Zoran Tomasevic. The daily also writes that Djurovic was sacked because of his poor results, ties with the former regime - and with Darko Saric, the fugitive suspected drug lord. Milorad Veljovic (FoNet, file) Beta
