Serbian Interior Minister Ivica Dacic stated Wednesday that the Interior Ministry had received a confirmation of Dobrosav Gavric's arrest from South Africa. Gavric was convicted of Zeljko Raznatovic Arkan’s murder. Arkan's killer arrested, minister confirms Dacic told Tanjug that Gavric had been temporarily detained based on an international warrant issued by Serbia. He stated that Gavric would appear before court in Cape Town today. The Serbian state bodies will, in accordance with usual practices, work in coordination with authorized services in Pretoria with the aim of extraditing Gavric to Serbia. Gavric was sentenced in Serbia to 35 years in prison for Arkan’s murder, but he fled the country before the sentencing. He entered South Africa in 2007 under a false name. He turned himself in to the Cape Town police on Tuesday, it was published by the South African Media Network, and has been remanded in custody at a police station, Special Police Unit for the Fight against Organized Crime Spokesman McIntosh Polela stated. “We have sent a confirmation of Gavric's identity to our colleagues in Serbia,” he said, adding that Serbia had filed a request for his extradition several months ago.
