The Human Rights Watch (HRW) has asked Kosovo Premier Hashim Thaci to initiate an investigation into the crimes committed against Serb civilians. The HWR wants those crimes allegedly perpetrated by the so-called Kosovo Liberation Army, KLA, after the Kosovo conflict of 1999 ended, investigated now. HRW asks Thaci to investigate organ trade claims Thaci is a former member of the KLA. The HWR said that the investigation should include allegations of murders and trade in body parts of the province's Serb victims. "Even indirect evidence of this trade disclosed by the former chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia Carla Del Ponte is horrible enough to prompt an investigation," HRW said. In a letter to Thaci's office of April 4, to which Tanjug has had access, HRW urges him to initiate, together with Albanian police, a detailed investigation to determine the veracity of Del Ponte's claims and bring culprits to justice. HRW was reacting to excerpts from Del Ponte's book "The Hunt", which said that Kosovo Albanians took some 300 Serb captives to northern Albania after the 1999 war, where their body parts were removed and sold for high amounts worldwide, and to reports that top KLA commanders were aware of this trade.
