The Serbian government will on Tuesday make its final decision on whether to allow the U.S. company Esmark to become majority owner of the Zelezara steel plant.

Decision on Smederevo steel plant to be made on Tuesday
The government on Sunday made its "final offer," while Esmark respond later the same day with "a counteroffer" - and it will be considered "until Tuesday morning."Regardless of the outcome of the negotiations, the Smederevo-based factory "will continue to work," Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic said earlier.
His "plan B" involves hiring managers "who know acquisition of raw materials and sale of steel well" - and this would be done "under the state's full control."
It is not known what the final offer and the counteroffer contain, nor what problems arose during the negotiations.
The Privatization Agency issued an invitation to tender to select a strategic partner for Zelezara Smederevo on December 5, 2014. A total of three bids arrived in the tender, and only one offer, by Esmark Inc., was valid.
The tender was opened on January 9, and the government began talks with Esmark on January 27.
Vucic confirmed on Monday that the government had received a counteroffer late on Sunday.
"The privatization adviser will give his opinion on the new offer during the day, and the commission on strategic partnership will do the same next morning," Vucic told reporters while en route to Skopje on Monday.
The Serbian government will meet to discuss the opinions after they are received, Vucic said.
Vucic told Radio Television of Serbia (RTS) in Zagreb yesterday that Serbia "presented the U.S. steel producer with its final position on Zelezara Smederevo privatization and expected a reply by the following morning."
"I had several conference talks with Belgrade today. We presented our final position and expect the reply in the morning," said the prime minister.
