PM meets with IMF officials

Serbian PM Mirko Cvetkovic began his visit to Washington on Friday with a meeting with International Monetary Fund (IMF) Deputy Managing Director Nemat Shafik. The Serbian PM and the IMF official discussed the arrangements between the institution and Serbia. PM meets with IMF officials Cvetkovic, who went on a visit to Washington to attend the spring meetings of the World Bank Group and the IMF, will also meet with Swiss Finance Minister Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf and the country's Economy Minister Johann Schneider-Ammann. The Serbian delegation also comprises Deputy Prime Minister Bozidar Djelic and National Bank of Serbia (NBS) Governor Dejan Soskic. Before going to Washington, the Serbian prime minister announced that now that the seventh and final review under the stand-by arrangement between the IMF and Serbia had been completed, he would ask the institution to grant Serbia a new arrangement out of precaution. Prior to the departure for Washington, Soskic said that the new arrangement should probably be limited to two years, and that Serbia should be provided access to funds in case of unforeseen developments in the international market. The Serbian government has sent a letter of intent to the IMF recently, stating that Serbia met a number of key goals set at the beginning of the last stand-by agreement with the institution, and also that the country is aware much still needs to be done to ensure a sustainable economic growth model. Cvetković, who went on a visit to Washington to attend the spring meetings of the World Bank Group and the IMF, will also meet with Swiss Finance Minister Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf and the country's Economy Minister Johann Schneider-Ammann.

The Serbian delegation also comprises Deputy Prime Minister Božidar Đelić and National Bank of Serbia (NBS) Governor Dejan Šoškić.
