The Monetary Board of the National Bank of Serbia (NBS) decided to maintain the referent interest rate at 16.5 percent. The Monetary Board evaluated that, "with strong inflation pressures increased by high inflation expectations", it is not possible to further reduce the degree of the monetary policy restrictiveness. Key interest rate remains unchanged The growth of inflation projections was caused by the high figures in January and February, mainly triggered by the growth of the government regulated prices. These prices were increased by some nine percent, which raises the question of the possibility of realizing the their planned 13 percent growth in 2009, the central bank said.
