Serbia's trade deficit in the first quarter of this year reached USD 2.9bn, 40.2 percent up on the same period last year. Import was covered by export by 46.2 percent, the Statistical Office said. The increase of exports came as a result of privatization and restructuring of enterprises, and the signing and ratification of the regional free trade agreement, CEFTA, the report said. Serbia's exports to CEFTA members came to USD 768.3mn, while imports amounted to USD 419.5mn. This surplus came primarily a result of export of agricultural products to these markets, the report said.
