The agriculture minister says Serbia has sufficient wheat to cover the country's needs until the 2009 harvest. "Just as in the past ten-year average, I expect the yield to be between three and 3.5 tonnes per hectare, which means that we will have perfectly sufficient quantities of wheat to feed the population, given that around 200,000 tonnes of wheat will be left over for the following year," Slobodan Milosavljevic said at an annual get-together with journalists. "Enough wheat to last until 2009 harvest" He said that this autumn wheat had been sewn on some 480,000 hectares, which was less than planned, but was also a consequence of bad weather and a large number of rainy days when machines could not go into the fields. “There’s no doubt that we will have enough wheat for next year, and for the 2009 harvest, provided nothing surprising or unexpected crops up,“ stressed Milosavljevic.
