The Belgrade Stock Exchange (BSE) indicator of expectations, BELEXsentiment, shows that investors are not optimistic. The October indicator stands at 131 points, ten points down on the September result. BELEXsentiment shows downward trend Additionally, even the August indicator, traditionally low due to a halt in trading during the vacation season, was higher. Expectations for October show that a significant trading activity is still linked to a reverse of the trend of prices, compared to that present in the stock market now, but many say that unclear political climate remains the most serious obstacle to a decision to invest. Neither Serbia nor the region are in fact immune to stock market upsets even by short-term political decisions. When Tomislav Nikolic of the Radicals (SRS) assumed his duties as parliament speaker for three days in May, both of the BSE indexes lost on average ten percent. Conversely, when Montenegro won its independent last year, the market in that country gained on average 20 percent.
