Cedomir Jovanovic says that his LDP will form the government with the DS and G17 Plus after the elections. “We rely on each other. We will meet with Dinkic and Tadic on May 12 and I hope that we will be in a position to form the government,” the president of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) said at a discussion with young people held at the Center for Cultural Decontamination. LDP seeks govt. coalition with DS, G17 Jovanovic said that if there was no coalition between the LDP, the Democratic Party (DS) and G17 Plus, there was a great danger that Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) leader Vojislav Kostunica could become prime minister again, at the head of a Serb Radical Party (SRS) government. He said that the LDP would insist on fast and effective changes, and on finishing jobs that Serbia had been awaiting for many years. Jovanovic said that these jobs included speeding up the process of European integration, completing cooperation with the Hague Tribunal, reforming the country, education, health and social welfare. He said that Serbia had been able to rid itself of Slobodan Milosevic on October 5, 2000, but that his system of values still existed. The young people attending the conference asked what the LDP’s policies would be towards them, and how they would be implemented. Jovanovic said that, if it entered the government, the party would insist on the formation of an agency for young people, which would deal with their problems directly. “This way we would be able to change the image of a country that is completely irresponsible towards young people,” the LDP leader said. He said that the agency would have to be independent from the state, except that it would have to be funded through the budget. “We do not want to be parents for young people, we want them to be able to take responsibility for their own lives,” Jovanovic said.
