MPs to vote on controversial law Aug. 31 Ealrier today, B92 unofficially learned that the ruling coalition in the Serbian parliament had managed to strike a deal to vote on drafts on the agenda. This should happen on Friday, Belgrade daily Blic was also reporting today. The newspaper wrote that the ruling coalition managed to agree "at the eleventh hour" that changes to the Law on Information, and other legislation, will be on the voting agenda on Friday, July 31. The daily's source would not specify whether the ruling Socialists (SPS) would vote in favor of the media law draft, criticized as limiting the freedom of the media, but added that the ruling majority will certainly manage to pass it. DS, G17 Plus, and SPS leaders are expected to announce their deal within the next 24 hours. Djukic-Dejanovic said on Wednesday that the date for the vote depended "on the government's plans in the summer period". Uncertainty over the date for the changes to the media law to be adopted was interpreted by the opposition as proof that the government had no majority for the bill.
