“After a decision of the Serbian Parliament reached on June 5 which recognised the independence of Montenegro, conditions were achieved for the Serbian Government, in the name of the Republic Serbia, to recognise Montenegro and establish diplomatic relations in order to encourage the development of friendly and neighbourly relations,” according to a statement from the Serbian Government.
“At the meeting, is was also confirmed that Montenegrin citizens who have registered residences on the territory of Serbia will be able to receive Serbian citizenship, and the Government has instructed the Internal Affairs Minister to prepare a corresponding act. The Government has also confirmed that Montenegrin citizens should be able to have equal rights for studying in Serbia as Serbian citizens have, and has instructed the Education and Sports Ministry to prepare an appropriate act.”
Montenegro has already been officially recognised by the US, Russia, Iceland, Croatia, China and the EU has recommended to all of its member countries to do the same.
The question Serbs should be asking themselves is how are the Serbs going to survive in a world that thinks of them as being a pariah. Don't worry about hoping to say "I told you so" to the Montenegrens because they will do just fine on their own!

I agree with Stefan. It looks like Serbia is overcompensating... to show its largesse. It reminds me of the funny CNN comment during the referendum:
"Serbs and Montenegrins are brothers," Kostunica said recently.
But Djukanovic responded: "Even if we are brothers, we don't want to live in the same house. I don't live in the same house with my brother."

Right on, Stefan. Montenegro will do OK as long as they receive aid and help from the west but just wait til they are put aside. Then let us see how great they are doing.

Well finally Serbia recognizes Montenegro. took some time, but well now it is done. Montenegro is from now on a foreign country and Montenegrians are foreigners in Serbia, because they choose so. If now they are treated in a special way, why should not Bosnians or Romanians or whatever national be treated differently? Well there is no reason or is there?
Montengrians have to be treated as foreignes in everything starting from working permit to social insurance and for sure education. Since Montengro says since some time that they have all they need in their country, well then all Montenegrins should have the right to work there and to pay taxes theres and the state will provide them with all, including all possible faculites and all possible medical treatments, or did I get somthing wrong? Well if as a teenager you are old enough and choose to live alone, then you have to provide for yourself and Montenegro choose to do so. Serbia should finally concentrate on its own problems and spent its money on its people and not on people which spit on it. Just a few thoughts from Switzerland...
