New cabinet does away with "phone sessions"

BELGRADE The new Serbian government, elected by the country's parliament on Friday, held its first session in Belgrade later the same day. The cabinet of Ivica Dacic decided to end the practice of holding "telephone meetings", introduced by the previous government, and resort to this "only under exceptional circumstances". New cabinet does away with "phone sessions" The session today appointed Veljko Odalovic as the government's general secretary, and relieved of their duties all state secretaries in the ministries of the previous cabinet. The new ministers also decided to withdraw from parliamentary procedure draft laws and other acts sent to parliament before the new government was elected. Prime Minister Ivica Dacic presided over today's session, after he formally took over his duties from his predecessor Mirko Cvetkovic. Dacic said on the occasion that he and his ministers were about to face a "tough period, without many opportunities to rectify mistakes". The session today appointed Veljko Odalović as the government's general secretary, and relieved of their duties all state secretaries in the ministries of the previous cabinet.

The new ministers also decided to withdraw from parliamentary procedure draft laws and other acts sent to parliament before the new government was elected.

Prime Minister Ivica Dačić presided over today's session, after he formally took over his duties from his predecessor Mirko Cvetković.

Dačić said on the occasion that he and his ministers were about to face a "tough period, without many opportunities to rectify mistakes".

He also thanked Cvetković for "everything he had done", wishing him success in his future endeavors.
