The EU aims to build a strong, firm and united Europe, with Serbia and its neighbors within it, Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Vincent Degert says. Degert, who hosted a reception at the Yugoslav Drama Theatre (JDP) on the occasion of Europe Day, May 9, stressed that in the past few years changes had been noted in the nature and intensity of relations between the EU and Serbia. EU wants to build “strong Europe with Serbia in it” He said that the EU had abolished visas for the citizens of Serbia, that the trade agreement had come into force and that the country has obtained the EU candidate status. Degert noted that things should not end there, adding that the EU and Serbia would work together on fulfilling the goal - Serbia's full-fledged EU membership. “There are differences in Europe, just as every choir has different voices, but we want Europe to send its message with a strong voice, to become the strongest continent and that its clear, unanimous and strong message be heard,” he explained. He pointed out that yesterday was the 62nd anniversary of the Schuman Declaration, a symbol of reconciliation in the world. The reception was attended by Serbian Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic, Parliament Speaker Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic, who is also the acting president of Serbia, Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Ivica Dacic, EU Integration Office Director Milica Delevic, Dragoljub Micunovic from the Democratic Party (DS), Jorgovanka Tabakovic from the Serbia Progressive Party (SNS), the Royal Family Karadjordjevic, National Bank of Serbia (NBS) Governor Dejan Soskic and representatives of the diplomatic corps.
