An unknown assailant opened fire on KPS members in front of a police station in southern Kosovska Mitrovica yesterday. One police officer and the attacker were wounded in the attack. KPS officer shot in south K. Mitrovica Kosovo Police Service (KPS) spokesman Besim Hoti said that the policeman had been wounded in the stomach and that the police had returned fire, wounding the gunman. The police officer was taken to the Pristina Clinical Center, and his wounds are not said to be life-threatening. “The attacker’s identity is unknown. Doctors have informed us that he is still unconscious, and it’s understood that he was under the influence of alcohol when the attack took place,” said Hoti. The KPS spokesman said that the motive of yesterday’s attack on the police remained unknown. According to a KPS statement, a man aged between 35 and 40 came up to the “South” police station at around 13:40 CET, and after contact with the three officers, opened fire on them from a revolver. One KPS officer was wounded during the attack, and after police returned fire, the attacker was also wounded, the statement continues. The officer and the attacker were transferred to the Clinical Center in Pristina and, according to the police’s information, they are in a stable condition, while the police are working to establish the attacker’s identity.
