Several hundred Serbs early on Saturday visited the Serbian Orthodox cemetery in southern Kosovska Mitrovica. They were marking the Orthodox Christian holiday of Zadusnice – All Souls' Day. Mitrovica There were no incidents as the Serbs arrived to visit the graves of their loved ones, where reports say ethnic Albanians had demolished and desecrated 80 percent of all tombstones. They traveled there escorted by Kosovo police, KPS. A total of 500 tombstones were destroyed at the Serbian Orthodox graveyard in this part of the town, where the last burials took place in 1999. There are no Serbs living in southern Kosovska Mitrovica, while a Bosniak and ethnic Albanian community lives in the northern, Serb-dominated part of the town. Tanjug also reported today that the Albanian cemetery in northern Kosovska Mitrovica has not been damaged.
