Unless Skopje recognizes Kosovo, some ethnic Albanian analysts say, South Ossetia-style "unrest" is possible. According to Beta news agency, the Democratic Party of Integration (DUI), a member of the ruling, VMRO-DPMNE led coalition, has asked that Macedonia recognizes Kosovo ahead of the UN General Assembly session, scheduled for later this month in New York. Albanians talk unrest over Kosovo Off the record statements from the ethnic Albanian party's officials have given a deadline for this: September 23. The same sources say that Montenegro will announce its recognition on October 3. Meantime, Albanian analysts in Skopje, Beta reports, have said that should Montenegro recognize Kosovo before Macedonia does, "although there are more Albanians" in the latter country, this would mean that the ethnic group's parties in Macedonia have been "delegitimized". "The deadline for Macedonia to recognize Kosovo is September 23, and if that doesn't happen, unrest like that in South Ossetia is possible," Lajm newspaper editor Nebi Merseli was quoted as saying today. In its Wednesday issue, Belgrade daily Danas writes that Macedonia will recognize Kosovo’s unilaterally declared independence on September 22. Teh newspaper says that Macedonian Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski has had informal meetings with representatives of Albanian parliamentary parties, and that he has agreed to recognize Kosovo’s independence for the “sake of the country’s stability,” sources from the Albanian parties claim. Gruevski believes that recognition of Kosovo, reportedly scheduled for September 22, "might solve the parliamentary crisis in Macedonia". The daily’s sources in Skople claim that the key factor was the decision of former Deputy Prime Minister Imer Selmani from a breakaway faction of Menduh Thaci’s Democratic Party of Albanians (DPA) to suspend his “obedience” to Gruevski’s cabinet. Officially, Macedonia's government has not announced if or when it intends to recognize Kosovo. Serbia considers the February ethnic Kosovo Albanians' declaration of independence illegal.
