BERLIN PM-Designate Ivica Dacic paid a visit to Germany on Thursday, where he conferred with top officials of the Berlin administration. He said that Serbia considered Germany its main strategic partner and that the new government would represent a new chance for Serbia. Dacic: Germany is Serbia’s main EU partner Dacic expressed hope that the two countries’ bilateral relations would be better in the following period. He informed his hosts about the policy and goals of the coalition that would form the parliamentary majority. The PM-designate communicated the main commitments of the future government according to which Serbia would continue its EU path so as to get a date for the beginning of the accession talks with the EU as soon as possible. He added that it meant that Serbia needed to fulfill all the criteria envisaged by the European Council. According to him, the criteria include preservation of peace and stability in the region, finding solutions in the field of energy and telecommunication and readiness to have the talks on a political level and not just have a technical dialogue. Dacic informed the German officials that the Serbian government is determined to become a factor of stability and peace in the region. When asked whether Germany changed its position on the request to abolish the Serbian institutions in Kosovo, Dacic said that “it should be clearly defined what it is referring to in all the upcoming talks”. He expressed hope that the request did not refer to everyday issues that were important for the citizens living in Kosovo and that it primarily applied to security and judicial structures. According to Dacic, those are the topics that will be discussed in the future. “It is very important for us to have the talks instead of trying to change the existing situation in the field by force,” he pointed out. The PM-designate noted that the U.S., EU, countries of the region and now Germany claimed that they would respect the will of the Serbian people and that they would cooperate with every government but that they would at the same time monitor the policy implemented by the new government and the results it would produce.
