American Ambassador to Belgrade Cameron Munter confirmed for daily Danas that he will be leaving Serbia before the end of his mandate. “It is true that I will leave Belgrade in about a month. My friend Christopher Hill is the ambassador in Baghdad and I have accepted an offer to join his team as an advisor for political-military questions,” Munter said. U.S. ambassador confirms early departure He added that his mandate as ambassador to Serbia was expected to last until the summer of 2010. “I am sad to be leaving Serbia, because they have showed me great respect and courtesy during my stay here,” Munter said. “I am a great optimist when it comes to the future of Serbia and the outlook of Serbian-American partnership. Despite our disagreements over the status of Kosovo, I believe that bilateral relations are very cordial and that they are heading in the right direction,” the ambassador said. The media in Belgrade has speculated that Washington would send a new ambassador to Belgrade before the end of the current one's mandate.
