“Still, we must wait and see how the operative actions will further unfold, rather, whether the information we have received will actually lead us to Ratko Mladic.” Ljajic said.

He said that the pressure being put on Serbia-Montenegro by the international community will be significantly increased if Mladic is not arrested by the end of the month, which the Hague Tribunal has stated to be their final deadline for his arrest.

“That is why we must do everything to make sure that all efforts put into this are increased and that this job is finally brought to an end.” Ljajic said.

Ljajic added that in informal talks with European officials it was clearly stated that the arrest of Mladic and the fulfilment of Serbia’s international obligations would significantly help its position in the Kosovo status discussions.

“Still, we must not harbour illusions that our negotiating position will improve, because we have, when talking about Kosovo, inherited a great problem, because the other side, figuratively speaking, has a 50 metre head start in a 200 metre race.” Ljajic said.
