Rasim Ljajic has presented Olli Rehn the results of the Action Plan for catching the remaining Hague fugitives. "We had very useful and good talks. We informed Rehn about the implementation of the Action Plan and about activities for locating the fugitives…I hope we’ve reached an understanding," said the president of the National Council for Cooperation with the Hague Tribunal after his meeting with the EU enlargement commissioner, that was also attended by Serbian War Crimes Prosecutor Vladimir Vukcevic. Ljajic, Rehn discuss Hague Action Plan “We’ll learn the degree of that understanding on Monday,” Ljajic said, reiterating that this was when EU foreign ministers would decide whether Serbia had achieved full cooperation with the Tribunal, and whether the country should be allowed to sign the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) with the EU. He added that Rehn had again “very clearly stressed that Serbia should have an open European path.“ Rehn’s press secretary Krisztina Nagy said the European Commissioner “had reiterated his endorsement for Serbia’s European future“ and stressed that he would like to sign the SAA with Serbia soon, as soon as all the conditions had been met. Asked whether the SAA could be signed on Monday, Ljajic replied: “I can’t promise anything. We’re not in a position to make promises, but to speak about all aspects of our cooperation with the Hague.“ Asked whether Rehn had conveyed any remarks from new Hague Chief Prosecutor Serge Brammertz concerning Belgrade's cooperation, Ljajic said that Rehn's impression was that the chief prosecutor "wants to stick strictly to the Tribunal's responsibilities and not get involved in political matters, which is significant." “There was no criticism. Brammertz will visit Belgrade in February and then we’ll discuss all aspects our cooperation with the Hague,” he added. Ljajic said that Brammertz had ascertained that there had been no dramatic developments, that none of the remaining fugitives had been extradited, but that Serbia “had carried out a whole series of activities and actions during that period." “We’ll see in the end what the results are of the activities we’re conducting at the moment,” he concluded.
