Serbian ombudsman receives French honor

Jankovic, who was presented with the honor by French Ambassador in Belgrade Christine Moro, also stated that it was "a recognition for Serbian citizens and the Republic of Serbia because only in a democracy with a future, the institution of ombudsman can take root."

Speaking about future challenges, Jankovic said that "it cannot be allowed that the difficult economic situation has an adverse effect on citizen rights and that laws must be binding for all."

“This is the task I as ombudsman share with the government, the parliament, justice system, with all citizens. It depends on us how we will live,” Jankovic told reporters during the reception in the French embassy.

The French ambassador said that Serbia was "lucky because it can count on people like Jankovic, in its effort to succeed along the path toward full EU membership."
