The criticism leveled at the agreement reached last Friday in the Belgrade-Pristina talks is "emotional and impulsive", believes Borislav Stefanovic. The Belgrade team leader in the Kosovo dialogue once again on Monday stated that the deal on customs seal and documentation was "best for Serbia and Kosovo Serbs because it represents something that regulates (everyday) life without prejudicing the status (of Kosovo)". Team chief dismisses criticism as "emotional" The agreement "does not carry implications toward the independence of Kosovo", he continued, and said this was the case because the agreement "regulates the flow of goods within one, not within two sovereignties". Stefanovic made the statements in response Monday's demand for his resignation that came from Serb mayors of three northern Kosovo towns. "I am a negotiator of the Serbian government and as such I try to win the best solution for Serbia, her citizens, and especially for Kosovo Serbs," he said. "The solution is status-neutral, preserves Serbia's position, takes the meaning out of (Hashim) Thaci's (trade) blockade and is not tied to a deal on administrative crossings, which will be a subject later in the dialogue when we discuss the north of the province," he was quoted as saying. According to him, the issue of customs seals "cannot influence the clearly and publicly expressed will of Pristina to take over the crossings". The leaders from the north also said that the situation on the ground was "significantly different from what they were told was agreed upon", and invited Stefanovoic to explain the deal made in Brussels to the citizens. The team chief responded to this by saying that he would "aways be with the citizens". "I will always be with the citizens, as we have been before," he was quoted as saying, "and they know very well about alternatives and what would be happening if there was no deal." Stefanovic denied that participants in the talks held in Brussels on Friday also discussed "to whom taxes and excises will be paid to", and said the money would "remain in the north, because the crossings were not a topic." "We will strive to, when it becomes a topic, and after consulting with presidents of municipalities from the north of the province, find a solution that goes to their favor. Anything else is politicking and playing with people's lives and stability." Borislav Stefanovic (Beta, file)
