United Regions of Serbia (URS) proposal for fiscal decentralization will not increase the state deficit, instead, the URS has announced. The party added that it envisaged a more functional and just allocation of money. URS on decentralization The poorest municipalities will benefit the most from the decentralization, it is said in the release. “The proposal is fiscally neutral. It really envisages significantly higher revenues for local self-governments which will finally enable them to be independent in financing of the most important local projects for which they today have enough authority but not enough money,” the URS explained. The party added that the state, on the other hand, would have lower revenues “but also lower expenses” and accused the Fiscal Committee of having political motives for giving the proposal a negative assessment. The URS also said that the Fiscal Committee’s assessment was “superficial”.
