Kosovo Minister Goran Bogdanovic says although Kosovo is a separate customs zone this doesn't mean it can charge customs in the northern part of the province. Bogdanovic explained that official Belgrade considers Kosovo a separate customs zone, as defined by UN Security Council Resolution 1244, "but that this does not mean Kosovo institutions should impose their will on the residents of northern Kosovo". Minister against "one-sided taxes and customs" Serbs who predominantly inhabit the north are rejecting the authority of the Kosovo Albanian government in Pristina. "This does not mean that after the unilateral declaration of independence, the so-called Republic of Kosovo can impose its will and unilaterally collect taxes and charge customs in the north of the province," Bogdanovic said. He stressed that one-sided taxes, regardless of which side imposes them, cannot be a solution to the problems in the north, and that customs will be one of the topics in the upcoming dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina. If we reach compromise on this issue, there is no reason for the agreement not to be implemented on the ground, said the minister. Bogdanovic reiterated that EULEX must be status neutral and that he and businessmen in the north have been given assurances that the EU mission has no intention of forcing the local population to pay taxes and contribute to the so-called Republic of Kosovo.
