Deputy Prime Minister Bozidar Djelic said that Serbia could not joint the EU until the status of Kosovo was solved. “It's not possible for the entire Western Balkans to enter the EU with the issue of Kosovo, including its status, not solved,“ he told B92. Deputy PM: No EU without Kosovo status The deputy PM added that Kosovo could not join the EU as long as there is a single country in the EU that dioes not recognize the independence. According to him,“it means that the desire for membership in the EU is actually a very strong stimulus to reach an agreement on Kosovo as well, so those two things, Europe and Kosovo are not opposing issues, but they have a certain synergy. Our road to Europe is helping to solve the issue of Kosovo, and not hurting it.“ Djelic pointed out that the recommendation for determining Serbia's candidate status would be forwarded to the EC on October 26. Speaking about the negotiations with Pristina, he said that the government “so far has not made a single decision“ about the topics of the talks, but that it was logical for Belgrade and Pristina not to agree on it. “Negotiations are being organized so two parties who don't agree would sit down and talk about certain issues and look for a compromise... Serbia thinks that it is necessary to talk about the status while Pristina thinks that talk about technical issues is necessary,“ the deputy PM stressed. He has also stated that Serbia must be careful in negotiations about the technical details so it would not come to an “indirect recognition of Kosovo's independence“ and as an example mentioned Kosovo's seal within the Central European Free Trade Agreement (CEFTA).
