President Boris Tadic said on Saturday in Novi Sad that the Vojvodina statute will in no way violate Serbia's wholeness. "Vojvodina will get what the Constitution guarantees it with a statute that will be in line with the Constitution of Serbia," he said while attending an Army Day exercise. Tadic: Statute does not violate wholeness "Decentralization is Serbia's tradition, and Vojvodina as a region has a European, but above all Serb character. Vojvodina is part of Serbia and it will remain so forever." Tadic also stated that the debate on the draft statute has been "politicized" and that it should now be channeled into a "democratic debate with arguments", in order to "dispel any doubts, trepidation and fears". "On Statehood Day we symbolically mark Serbia's unity, her territorial integrity and indivisible nature. We mark a freedom-loving tradition of the Serb nation, but also the respect of all the citizens of Serbia: Serbs, Hungarians, Bosniaks, Romas, Croats, Slovaks, Romanians, Rusyns, Bunjevci, Goranis, Albanians, Vlachs, Montenegrins, Macedonians," the president said, mentioning some of the country's ethnic minorities. "We celebrate the renewal of our statehood, but also the steadfast work to improve human rights and freedoms, respect of religion, tradition, culture and identity," Tadic said.
